Toddler Dictionary

Who can resist chuckling when chatting with a 2-year-old. They have their own unique way of communicating, as they learn different words and create their own language sometimes. Drew is no exception. In fact sometimes you need a Drew-dictionary to know what the heck he's talking about.

So here are are a few of what I'll call "Drew-ims".

  • Waden - also known as baden. You and I call it water
  • Johnny - also known as The Wiggles, Yellow Wiggle, Sam or Greg
  • "Dahhhhdeeeee" while looking in the bathroom drawer handles - this is a game Drew has played while looking at himself in the bathroom fixtures since he was about 9 months old. Still entertaining after almost a year and a half.
  • Overdere - also known as over there
  • Geeboo - also known as peek-a-boo, which he does know how to say
  • Big Slide, Little Slide - the bump in the road as you cross a particular intersection near our house and go up the hill. The "bump" causes him to jump a little in his seat, and likely his little tummy does a little maneuver, which causes him to giggle and say "big slide" and then the second part of the hill (without any tummy tingling bumps) is "little slide".
  • Manny - also known as Manny Ramirez of the Dodgers, or any baseball player who is up to bat for that matter.
  • Pinners or Spinners - Otherwise known as windmills or pinwheels
  • Hit It - This means he wants to play baseball with you, and you will likely be the batter
  • Ookiepook - Drew's male "organ"
  • Boogoo - see ookiepook
  • Da - wooden spoon. You can often see Drew taking the "da" out of the dishwasher or drawer yelling "daaaaaaa" around the house.
  • Booger Eye - (said in the whiniest voice possible) this means tears are in his eyes and preventing him from having his normal vision. And it's also a request for you to wipe the tears.
He's coming up with more and more Drew-isms every day. I'll continue to gather some of the best for future posts.

But I leave you with a great story from yesterday morning. I was in the bathroom getting ready for work, and Drew comes walking in, and says "Mama, you awesome".

I chuckled (proudly of course) and said "Aww baby you're awesome too". To which Drew left me to continue playing. Do you think he'll still feel the same when he's 15?

  1. Answer to your last line - depends on how much driving around of Drew and his friends you are willing to do!
