Drive-in Shenannigans

Earlier this month when Planes came out (the new Pixar movie) we were invited by Drew's old day care provider to join them and about 6 other families at the Drive-in.  This was Drew's first time there. 

We brought dinner - a free Rocco's pizza and the kids played on the playground before it got dark.

Here are some of the Moms watching the kids at the playground - the Dad's are "helping" by keeping an eye on the cards (and the beers/alcohol I'm sure).

Notice Drew's face near his right eye... that was courtesy of a child at the preschool/daycare where we had him this summer.  He has scarred, but we're still hoping it'll fade some...

It's hard to get a picture of the  entire group, but I believe there was something like 7-8 families with their kids.

It got cool quick, and Amber and Greg were kind enough to let Drew crash in their pad with the other Drew and his brother Evan.

Drew passed out in the car within about 20 minutes.  Poor kid never did see the movie.  Dave and I did, and Dave even stayed awake for the second feature, Despicable Me 2.  Drew and I saw that one at the theatre, so I joined Drew in the nap department.

Another First for Drew!

It's been a while since Drew's experienced a first - well this holiday weekend, he had one.  His first trip to the movie theater!

After the preschool luncheon we took Drew to his first big screen movie to see Happy Feet 2.  He had a great time, but he was a little wiped out by the early wake-up and his Thanksgiving feast cooking.  So I think he was fighting to stay awake in the dark theater.  He said he had a great time though and has been reciting movie quotes all weekend.

And he's busy telling anyone who will listen all about his first movie.  I guess he's proud of it.  Does that mean we have to go back and do more?

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing

The Wiggles may say "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" but after hearing this DVD nonstop for now four days in a row, I think I need to change the name of this movie. Something like "You Make Me Feel Like Wearing Ear Plugs".

I mentioned earlier this week that Drew was at my parents last weekend while Dave and I enjoyed a weekend alone - or should I say recovering from a hangover - but I digress.  My parents have this DVD at their house and I'm sure they had the "pleasure" of watching/hearing it over and over again.

Well on Tuesday we went to the library to return our movies - we check out Signing Time and other movies quite regularly - when Drew spotted this movie on the shelf.  Unfortunately for me, the "W" movies are right at his eye level and he can spot the Wiggles from a mile away.  Drew eagerly pulled this from the shelves.  He knew that this was the "Grammy and GrampC Wiggles".  I guess he was feeling nostalgic. 

So needless to say we haven't been able to give our ears a break from the non-stop viewing of this video.

Hamming it up for Survelliance

Big Brother is everywhere. Including right as you walk into most stores,
survelliance cameras tracking the ins and outs of the customers.

But look at those cameras next time through the eyes of a 2 year old - who of course loves to see himself on "tv". (As I mentioned last week here.) That's right, we walk into Target, and he spots the camera, stops and begins waving and laughing at himself.

Quite entertaining to the folks walking into the store, not so funny to the Mommy who is trying to make a quick Target run.

I do have to say that a few weeks ago when we were at Kohl's and he was "performing" for the camera... it was a great way to keep him entertained while Daddy stood in a LONG line to pay.

And the Best Movie Nominiee is....

It's award season, and while the various award programs are announcing their nominees are for best picture, actor etc., the celebrities are working on their acceptance speeches, or at a minimum their wardrobe.

Well at our house we have our own nominee for best picture - or at least most frequently watched.

That's right, this Dr. Seuss movie is a HIT! We're talking - this video comes with three stories, and Drew will only watch Green Eggs, over, and over, and over again. Like HOURS! And it's about a 10 minute video people!

And then we get the pleasure of reading him that story at bedtime too - so we're surrounded by Dr. Seuss. (I guess I shouldn't complain - Daddy gets to read the story, because Mommy doesn't do the voices right).

I even bought the "Cat in the Hat" movie at Target when it was on sale, thinking maybe we could sneak that one in. No interest. OK get him the book... perhaps the book is better than the movie. He wasn't so thrilled by the book, although it did put him to sleep, so I guess it did its job. hehe So far I'm unsuccessful in the swap.

Anyway, if you're looking for a Friday night movie recommendation, Drew gives this one an enthusiastic two thumbs up!

Does This Qualify as Narcissistic?

According to the be-all and end-all of online encyclopedias - Wikipedia defines a narcissist as:
" ... being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power, and prestige.^[2] Narcissistic personality disorder is closely linked to self-centeredness."

Well that about defines every child I know... including my toddler. Case in point, Drew is obsessed, and I mean obsessed with watching videos of himself on our computers.


This was him on Sunday. He wouldn't stop whining until I finally threw YouTube Videos of himself on. Oh and then he whined begged for us to put on a different clip. Thankfully he knows how to replay the same clip.

For the record - he's perfectly happy watching videos on all of my friends blogs too, he just asks to see himself.

So does this qualify as setting up narcissistic tendencies? Would we as parents be considered enablers?

Movie Night!

We had our first family movie night on Saturday! Well Drew wasn't so interested in the holiday flick we chose ("Four Christmases"), but he watched "Elephant" (otherwise known as Baby Einstein's "Baby Noah").

The highlight of Drew's night - his own popcorn bucket!


While this is far from his first time getting popcorn, it is always a treat when he gets to chow on it. And he hasn't had a big bucket for a while. It's always nice to have some family time.

Oh, and we have it set up so Drew watches his little portable movie player which rests on the fireplace, while we get the "big TV". He has had this set-up since he was walking... and he's not the wiser, so don't clue him in that he "could' watch movies on the big TV!
