I think this last birthday party will be one for the record books thanks mostly to GrampC for building the best launcher ever!
On Sunday we celebrated Drew's 5th birthday at a local park. Any guesses on the theme this year... your first guess doesn't count...
That was the invitation I had made. I have to say this year's birthday was brought to you by Pinterest. I love that site for things like this.
Drew is all about Angry Birds. All.the.time. So we did the theme up. I did the party from 2-4 so we didn't offer lunch or anything, but I did have snacks. Like Angry Bird eggs (grapes), Angry Bird Cheese Nips and...
Again, thank you Pinterest. These are the "red bird" angry bird bagels with salami, cheese and olives. I used cream cheese to act as the "glue". Sorry about the saran wrap over them... the bees were out of control as was the wind.
Games? We had games. Well one in fact. If you saw the sneak peak on Facebook you know why. It was a show stopper.
GrampC arrived early with the Angry Bird launcher he made, and Drew got about 30-40 minutes of practice in.
The goal is to knock down the boxes where we had some green balloon pigs mixed in (with faces we taped using a Pinterest template I found). We also placed Drew's "King Pig" Plush on the top for the kids to knock down to get a new level - a.k.a. rearrange the boxes.

The line of partygoers patiently waiting. Adrina is taking her turn.
The best part (next to the launcher) is that we had a "golden egg" which if you know the Angry Birds game you know this is a great find. In our version of the game if you "found" it and knocked it down you got what was inside - which was candy. Therefore we didn't need a pinata.

If you're curious about the balls that were used for this game...
Dave found the 3 larger balls (2 red birds and black bird) at Toys R Us. Initially the plan was to find some balls and have Dave paint the faces. Instead he only did that with the 3 blue birds - which are racquetballs. Yes, Dave painted the faces.
And much to Dave's chagrin, when I mentioned the balls to my co-worker she thought the blue ball idea would be a great favor. Dave thought so too and so last minute he bought and painted the balls to add to the favors (which were a different toy which we took out and returned, tattoos and angry bird fruit snacks all put in an angry bird cup).
What's a birthday party without the cake? Yes I took it upon myself to make the cake again...and I admit I didn't curse nearly as bad as I have in previous years.
Can you tell Drew loved the cake?
I'm just happy with all that wind we managed to get the candles lit and we could sing happy birthday.
Kids devouring the cake...
The kids also played on the playground but only because Dave said he needed a break - he was busy building the towers all afternoon.
And the game was so fun Drew and our neighbor boy wanted to play some more, so we set it up out front.
And since Daddy felt bad he wasn't in many of the pictures he wanted a good night picture with Drew and the green pig balloon we'd made.
It will be hard to top this birthday party, that's for sure! We cannot say thank you enough to GrampC for all his hard work and imagination that went into that launcher. Not only was it a hit with our group, but all the kids at the park and our other neighbors who wanted their kids to get a turn as well after the party.
