Wall of Fame

Over Labor Day weekend Dave started a new art project - the first since he sketched Drew 2 days after he was born.  This one was on a much larger scale - a wall mural - for some friends of ours.  The mural is in their boys' bedroom and takes up a good chunk of one of the walls.

I got to see it about 2 weeks later when we stopped over at Brian and Stephanie's after our Parents Night Out.  Dave had to show me that he really was working all those hours he spent over there while I was home slaving away at Drew's birthday cake attempts.

For the record Dave free-handed the design and began the painting process... Brian finished it.  I'm sure they wanted the project completed faster than Dave could have gotten there to finish it.  It really does look amazing!

God Made Me Special

The other day when I picked Drew up from school, I saw the following art project in his cubby about why "God made me special".

In case you cannot read it, Drew's picture is of "me [him] pushing the lightening to make it stop raining".

I guess we weren't the only ones traumatized by the random rainstorm earlier this week.

Sharing the Love

The other day I found the following art project in Drew's cubby at school:




I assume this is a Valentines Day project announcing all of his "loves".  I admit i found it very sweet that he included Mason and Troy - his best friends and Ms. Stephanie's boys (where he went to daycare and with whom he now goes to school).  But is anyone surprised like I was, not to see Rocky included in this "list"?

School Artwork

One of the joys of preschool is the abundance of art projects Drew comes home with.  A little more than a week ago, he came home with a project that really surprised us. 

His artwork is starting to look like something other than just scribbles and lines.  (Drew still doesn't know how to hold a pencil/crayon correctly so it's usually just circles and lines). The assignment to draw your friends.  Here's what he drew L-R - Himself, Mason, Troy, Daddy (and on the bottom, I'm a gray line). 

Dave had a big laugh at that one going back to the "funny" Drew told several months ago.  Forget that story? Catch up here, it's #3.

Anyway this art project was like he turned a corner.  He's also now writing his name and it's mostly legible (albeit about font size 72).  It's one of the great things about watching your child grow, learn and expand their overall knowledge.  It's amazing to sit back and watch the ride.

Picasso in the Making

If you didn't know Dave graduated with a Studio Art Degree - rather than becoming a starving artist however, he decided to support his family in the sales field.

It appears Drew is taking after his Daddy, and is looking to support his family in the art business.  Ok probably not really, but a girl can dream right?

For his birthday, he received some finger paints, and my favorite - a plastic apron.  A little timid at first about putting his little fingers in the paint, he decided to give it a go.  And he began making masterpieces - well for the fridge anyway.

The good news, is he liked it and didn't mind getting dirty.  After all, he's an artist.
