It was that time of year again that we travel back in time to the Renaissance period and join our friends Mel and Chris for some debauchery.
That picture was taken at the end of the day. Dave actually came through the gates with a sword, but within the time it took to walk maybe 50 yards to get from the front gates to the beer stand he lost the sheath. So he had to take his exposed sword back to the trailer. He was rather bitter about it.
So to try and make him feel better we attended a few "new to us" shows - preferring the NC17 version kind of things since we didn't bring any of the kids.
Here's a video sample of their hit song... a bit of a warning, they have an NC17 rating for a reason. I don't advise listening to it while at the office and in earshot of your co-workers...
Dave had the hots for the redhead.
We then headed over to the joust and met up with Melody's sister and her boyfriend. After the show we were amazed to find someone taller than Chris.
That man is a giant next to my 5'10" husband.
After lunch we went back to another joust, thinking the Queen would be back.. no such luck.
Here's the gang.... starting in the 2nd row:
L-R: Eric, me
L-R: Megan, Mel, Chris
It was all about shows this time - we hit up another one, the Dirty Laundry Women (again on the "naughty" stage). They asked for volunteers and my ever so "bashful" husband volunteered...
To earn a flower for his lady he had to make an ass of himself by wearing a feather boa...
... walking to the back of the arena...
... and shouting about how much he loves himself and then proceed to hug himself. He got off easy compared to the other guys.
My flower :)
Notice where I put it? Another great afternoon, and thankfully the weather was perfect! It's normally scorching hot, but this year was beautiful.

Renaissance Faire - Solo
For the first time since Dave and I started dating 11 years ago we went to the Renaissance Faire - alone. Over the last decade we've always gone with our friends... well that first year we went with Chris, and happened to run into Melody at the Ren Faire before they started dating (well officially I think anyway).
Back to this year.... Dave and I showed up later than normal. Typically we're there right when it opens, but we were dragging our feet a bit and showed up 1:30 late. Then of course I got a nasty headache and we left 1:30 early (Dave wasn't too happy with me about that).
But while we were there we did have a good time, albeit not as good a time had our friends been there. I actually had to spend time alone... with Dave! The horror! (hehe)
Can I say how happy I was to get out of that bodice?! Not only could I breathe again, but the kidney pain I was feeling all day disappeared. How the heck did they wear this stuff back then? The only way to make it go away in today's time... drinking more beer.

RenFaire Madness
It started out quite eventful when our friends Mel and Chris blew out one of their tires on their trailer. So while they worked to change the tire, Dave and I managed to get some shopping done at the outlets.
Friday night once we finally arrived we enjoyed each others company and a few adult beverages.
Saturday was the big faire day. As always we enjoyed strolling around and taking in the experience. Foods and of course the ale! Joust this year wasn't as good as years past, but we still had a fabulous time.
Saturday night we stayed in Mel and Chris' trailer and were able to have a few more adult beverages along with dinner. It's so nice to catch up with our friends we only see 1-2 times a year. Sunday it was off to pick up Drew at Grammy and GrampC's.
Unfortunately for our friends, their spare blew and after the purchase of 3 new tires for their trailer they made it home. If we had lived closer we would have loved to help out - even if it's to enjoy a few beers on the side of the road while we waited for tow trucks.
Here are a few more pictures from the weekend.
