Yet another Memorial Weekend camping trip in the books. We went to Jellystone Park again at Cobb Mountain - we were there last year for the first time for Labor Day.
This time the kids had a great time catching tadpoles! I think Drew caught something else, but we'll get to that later.
We had a new camper this year... Miss Avery went for her first camping trip at just shy of 3 months.
The campsite is near Clearlake, and on Saturday we went out and did a little sight seeing on the lake. (Photo is from Lakeport)
Miss Avery was too sleepy to do the sightseeing.
But she woke up for the family photo - that's my brother Matt, Rana, Adrina and Avery
We were lucky GrampC wasn't napping.
Of course our real mission on that Saturday was to hit some new wineries. We went to the lake after hitting the first one up.
Here the kids are keeping busy at a new winery in the area - Mt. Konacti. We bought several bottles from there.
Our last stop of the day was at Loujour Estate Winery - which opened it's doors only 2 days earlier. Spectacular views and their wines were pretty good. We managed to chat it up with the owner who grew up in Antioch, lived in Walnut Creek and then moved to the Clearlake area to open the winery with his wife.
Chatting it up with them lead to some lovely pours too! No discounts unfortunately.
After wine tasting we went back to the campsite where the kids were promised a round of mini golf.
The next day we did some mining for "gold" while the guys were off playing some mini-golf.
Grammy came with us too I promise.
Turns out the boys were playing mini-golf for a prize. Loser had to shotgun a beer. GrampC lost and shotgunned his first ever beer. It wasn't pretty.
Uncle Matt had to show GrampC how easy it really is...
Later that night Drew was getting ready by the campfire.
So back to the story about what else Drew caught in addition to tadpoles...
On Sunday Drew woke up with a stomach ache that lead to sharting twice and then explosive you know whats the rest of the morning. We were considering having to pack it up and head home, but then he caught his second wind.
It plagued him a bit more that evening and it dawned on me that it could be because he had his hands in the murky water and since he'd just lost his tooth, he constantly put his hands in his mouth. I figured some bacteria was the culprit.
The next morning much the same. Which was rough since we had to wake-up and hurry up to close camp - rains were coming. We had to make a couple of pit stops in Napa on the way home for Drew, but he did get home and was OK. Turns out he had the bug for another two days (2 days of missed school) and then everything was fine. The good news is no one else got it, so my suspicion about the bacteria from the water still stands...
Otherwise it was a great trip! Looking forward to our next camping adventure of the year.
