Father's Day 2013

This past Father's Day, we decided to stay low key - or rather Daddy decided he wanted a low key day.  We played hooky from church and decided to go bowling for the afternoon.

At this alley it's either all players use bumpers or no one does... so we all played with bumpers.

They boys marking the fact Daddy got a Double Strike.

And here are our final scores after 2 games... all with bumpers.  Drew started, then me, and Dave at the bottom.  Notice how mine and Dave's scores tanked the 2nd game?!  That was a couple of pitchers of beer in...

It was a fun Father's Day afternoon!

Time to Spare

It was a hot one this past weekend so we came up with a plan to stay cool and have fun indoors - bowling!  Our neighbors joined us for some fun thanks to a Groupon we scored.

This was Drew's second time bowling and his friend Christopher's first time.  The boys had a blast bowling 2 games.

Dave couldn't believe one of the frames that Drew bowled, leaving all four back pins standing....

His second throw only left 3 standing.

Go Mommy - she got a spare!  Shhhh she even  beat Daddy on the last game - but Daddy erased the board before she could get picture proof.

In between turns Drew decided to climb under any chairs he could find.  Thankfully the alley was VERY quiet that afternoon and he wasn't in anyone's way.

Christopher's reaction from one of the first times he threw the ball.  His mom Julie is in the background and Drew's there offering moral support.

Dave has this OCD thing where he shines the ball before throwing it.  Very odd, just like him.

And then the peanut gallery shows what they think of that.

We had a great time  and figured we could easily do this every couple months with the boys.  Funny thing is through the summer kids bowl free!  Perhaps we'll rethink how often we do this - at least through the summer.

One of the Big Kids

On Sunday at church we were invited to tag along with the youth group who was going bowling.  Since our afternoon freed up we decided it would be the perfect opportunity for Drew to experience his first bowling alley.

Drew bowled on the lane with Pastor, Daddy, and Pastor's soon-to-be Daughter-in-law (all the youth group were spread out on other lanes).  When Drew's turn came up, he the bumpers came up hoping to improve his game.

Drew quickly learned real bowling is different than hallway or Wii bowling.

Let's just say he wasn't breaking any records like he does on his Wii bowling game.  After 2 games he was pretty much done - they bowled 3 games.  The weight of the ball and the wait between one turn to the next finally did him in.  I think his average game was maybe 40, so not stellar, but not bad for a first performance.

It was really cute to see him trying to do it all himself, and then try so hard not to cry when his first roll didn't give him the strike he thought he deserved (in fact it was only 2 pins I believe).  I think Dave and I determined we should do this from time to time as a family - maxing out at 2 games.
