Last Saturday it was up and at 'em early for "Opening Day" Celebrations for Drew's Little League - keep in mind I got home late the night before from a business trip. The League said they do mid-season celebrations because it never failed that opening ceremonies were always rained out when they would do them in Febrary.
Despite everyone having a hard time getting up and getting going, thankfully we made it to the field on time, but unfortunately there weren't too many of the Nationals (Drew's teammates).
Initially there were only 4! It's deceiving in the picture because the team next to ours was the Phillies and they too were wearing red. Drew is closest to Dave on the right.
I have to say it was really hard to hear the announcer - who was also the president of the league. But he called the teams up and everyone cheered them on. Then there were several speeches and recognizing various people. Our poor 4-6 year olds were having a hard time staying still and paying attention.
Thankfully they gave the little ones a break and had them run around the bases a few times.
Drew is second from the left.
It was kind of cute, the older kids held their hands out for the T-ballers to give them high-fives.
Then later the T-ballers gave the older kids high-fives when the competitive teammates were being recognized for getting first place in a recent tournament.
They had a BBQ and baseball games planned for the remainder of the day, but we were an hour from that kicking off... and we still had a game of our own. We opted to head home and chill for a bit before Drew had to play. I'm glad we made that call.
