How the Grinch Stole 3.1 Miles

We skipped this race last year, but this year we did the Bah Humbug for the first time as a family - as in we all ran the 5K or 3.1 Miles.

Here is our Bah Humbug rookie - Drew.

And then we were off!

Drew was having a really hard time with this race.  About a mile in he was asking "are we done yet?"  He was happy to see the 2 mile marker.

And congrats to Drew he finished!  Here is a family photo post-race

He came in 18th place out of 21 for his age bracket (ages 5-8) with a time of 49:12 as did Mom and Dad, but Drew finished 2nd among 6 year olds.  Not bad!

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

We did the annual tree lighting in our town at the beginning of December, however this year it was cold and wet!  We didn't have snow falling from the sky, but boy was the rain coming down.  But that won't stop us from enjoying the fun at Bishop Ranch (my work complex).

 

Here we are trying to stay dry in the line for Santa.  Don't let his face above fool ya, he really was having a good tine.

And then we finally made our way to the jolly old man.
We are normally one of the first in line, but we had a few lollygaggers this year and weren't as "prompt" as normal.

And then we ventured over to the snow!

Ok so this white stuff wasn't the natural snow, but brought in or made just for this event.... but hey Drew had a blast in there!

And this year there were reindeer!

After the reindeer Daddy and I had enough of the rain and we decided it was time to head home.  We had an absolute blast - this was our 4th year doing this I believe.  Can't beat free fun!

Star of the Week

The week before Thanksgiving Drew was his Kindergarten Class' Star of the Week.  At the beginning of the year, parents were asked to prepare a folder highlighting their child.  Here is Drew's:

I highlighted the different States he's traveled to (yes I know DC isn't a state, but you know what I mean).

Every day that week Drew got to bring/do something that he could show off .  He shared his favorite book (which that day was the Shel Silverstein "Everything on It", his favorite CD (A Kids Bop CD that included the Taylor Swift song "Teardrops on my Guitar" because it says his name), and he shared his Dad's baby Moccasins.  



On  Wednesday of that week, Dave and I were invited to come in and talk about Drew, share stories, his folder and talk about us.  The kids were a riot asking all sorts of questions and telling us about all of their traveling adventures.

Thanksgiving 2013

Thanksgiving this year was at Grammy and GrampC's (my parents)...

So much to be thankful for... including GG's health.  She missed Thanksgiving because she was held over at the hospital.

I love Drew's imagination at the age of 6.   You take away the electronics and he comes up with awesome ideas to entertain himself.

Disney Escapades

While I was in Orlando last month for the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon, I managed to get a little sightseeing in - without any entry to the parks.  In fact my visiting went between my hotel, the neighboring hotel and the ESPN Wide World of Sports where the race expo was located.


At the expo I had a chance to listen to Jeff Galloway - and Olympic runner and the "creator" of the run/walk method.  Very interesting and motivational discussion he had for this race... he was using it to build time for his marathon training run in the beginning of December - he's trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Afterward I went back to the hotel so I could try and get a nap, but first I did a little sight seeing at the hotel I was staying at... Pop Century.



The hotel is themed by decades... 50's, 60's, 70's where I stayed, 80's and 90's.  It was kind of fun.



This giant yo-yo was located right outside my room.

But the hotel that I would love to stay at next trip to Disney is the Art of Animation - located right behind my hotel.  It was amazing the amount of detail.  Here's the playground.
